Your journey begins with an introduction to Utah’s fascinating history and its breathtaking contrasts: the snow-capped peaks of the Wasatch Mountains shimmer on the horizon, while the blue waters and islands of the Great Salt Lake gradually give way to a vast, snow-white desert stretching into infinity. Our route follows the historic Victory Highway — the nation’s second transcontinental road, opened in 1913. Along the way, you’ll pass impressive white “mountains” of salt rising from the desert floor like monuments to both the power of nature and the scale of human industry.

We’ll begin our adventure at Great Salt Lake State Park — a place where nature, history, and tranquility come together in perfect harmony. In the soft afternoon light, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views from the park’s scenic overlooks and capture stunning photographs of the mirror-like waters framed by the majestic Wasatch Mountains. A short walk will take you to the marina and the wild beach, where you’ll discover the area’s unique flora and fauna and learn about the lake’s fascinating geological past, as well as the once-famous balneological resorts that flourished along these shores.

Our next stop is the monumental Tree of Utah — an 85-foot (26 m) psychedelic sculpture created by Swedish artist Karl Momen. Standing in the desert since 1986, it serves as a hymn to life rising above the vast salt wilderness. Its vibrant spheres emerging from the endless white surface create a surreal, almost otherworldly scene. We’ll then visit the Blue Canal, a remarkable engineering project where bright turquoise water cuts through the salt flats like a shimmering ribbon. It’s not only an iconic photo spot but also a testament to human ingenuity — this very canal helped protect Salt Lake City from catastrophic flooding in the 1980s.

The highlight of our journey is the encounter with one of nature’s great wonders — the Bonneville Salt Flats, spanning roughly 30,000 acres (121 km²). Here, on the ancient bed of prehistoric Lake Bonneville, you’ll step into a surreal world of white infinity. As the sun begins its slow descent, the salt surface transforms into a vast mirror, reflecting the sky and creating captivating optical illusions — desert mirages that seem to shimmer and drift along the horizon. You’ll stand on the legendary Bonneville Speedway, where world land-speed records are set, and feel as though you’ve arrived on another planet. This magical evening atmosphere makes the experience truly unforgettable. Here, countless world land-speed records have been set over the decades on this perfectly flat, shimmering surface. You’ll walk on the very salt where racing legends once stood, see the famous Bonneville Speedway sign, and capture extraordinary photographs framed by one of the most beautiful sunsets in Utah.

An unforgettable finale to the day awaits at the Silver Island Mountains, where we’ll pause at a panoramic viewpoint just in time for sunset.
